Meet the all-new Audi A2 e-tron

The Audi A2 name is returning, and it is being brought back in a completely new way. 

More than two decades after the original A2 made its debut, Audi has reimagined the nameplate for the electric era. The new Audi A2 e-tron is a compact fully electric model designed around a simple idea: an electric car should be efficient, practical and enjoyable to live with, without needing to take up more space than necessary. 

As Audi’s new entry point into its fully electric range, the A2 e-tron combines an instantly recognisable silhouette with a new generation of electric technology. It can travel up to 397 miles† on a single charge, charge from 10 to 80% in as little as 24 minutes, and is Audi’s most efficient model yet. 

But the numbers are only part of the story. From clever storage and bidirectional charging to its compact dimensions and digital interior, the A2 e-tron has been developed around the realities of everyday driving. 

A familiar name with a new purpose

The original Audi A2 was known for doing things differently. Now, that approach returns in an electric package. 

Rather than simply recreating the original design, Audi has taken the A2 silhouette and given it a contemporary interpretation. The result is a smooth, aerodynamic profile with carefully considered details throughout, including a new interpretation of Audi’s Single-frame grille, slimline lighting and distinctive wing-shaped electric door handles. 

The focus on aerodynamics isn't just about appearance. With a drag coefficient of 0.24, the A2 e-tron achieves the best aerodynamic performance in Audi’s compact line-up. Features including aero wheels, a largely enclosed underbody, an active cool-air intake and integrated gap reducers all contribute to reducing drag. 

It is a design approach where form and function work together. 

A more considered approach to materials

The A2 e-tron isn't just designed with efficiency in mind while you're driving it. Audi has also considered how materials are used throughout the car, taking a more circular approach to its construction. 

Depending on the specification, more than 300 components in the A2 e-tron are made using recycled materials, including steel, aluminium and plastics. More than 100 of these contain post-consumer recycled materials, meaning materials recovered from products such as end-of-life vehicles can be processed and used again in automotive applications. 

This approach extends into the cabin, too. The optional Softwrap materials and fabrics used for the three optional sports seats are made from 100% recycled polyester, showing that recycled materials don't have to mean compromising on the look or feel of a premium interior. 

Audi has also looked at what happens to components further down the line. By reducing the number of different materials used within individual parts, components can be easier to separate and recycle when the vehicle eventually reaches the end of its life. 

The A2 e-tron’s instrument panel, for example, uses a less complex combination of materials to make separation easier.  

It is another example of the thinking behind the A2 e-tron: looking beyond the drive itself and considering how a premium electric car can make better use of materials throughout its lifecycle. 

Charging that works both ways 

Charging your A2 e-tron isn't just about getting enough power for your next journey. With optional bidirectional charging, the car can also share some of its stored energy with other devices – or, with the right setup, your home. 

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) lets you use the A2 e-tron's battery to power electrical devices. For example, you could use the socket in the boot to charge an e-bike or connect other equipment using an adapter at the car's charging port. 

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) takes this a step further. When connected to a compatible DC wall box, the A2 e-tron can send energy from its battery back to your home. So, rather than only taking electricity from the grid, your car can also become an additional source of stored energy for your household. 

When it comes to charging the car itself, the A2 e-tron supports rapid DC charging at up to 183 kW. Depending on the version, you can charge from 10 to 80% in as little as 24 minutes. 

It means your A2 e-tron can do more than simply take you where you need to go. Its battery can become a useful part of how you power your everyday life, too. 

Small outside, spacious inside 

Compact doesn't have to mean cramped. 

The A2 e-tron makes clever use of its compact dimensions, creating a cabin that feels open, comfortable and easy to adapt. Softwrap materials across the dashboard and doors add a softer touch, while the optional panoramic glass roof brings 1.6 square metres of glass overhead. 

There's plenty of practicality, too. The boot offers 396 litres with the rear seats in place, increasing to 1,336 litres when they're folded. 

Another clever touch is Audi's Fidlock magnetic fastening system, fitted as standard. Magnetic attachment points around the A2 e-tron make it easy to keep things securely in place, from cupholders to charging cable bags, while also giving you the flexibility to move them around when you need to. 

It's the kind of detail that makes the A2 e-tron feel as practical as it is compact. 

Technology without the clutter 

The MMI panoramic display is the centrepiece, bringing together an 11.9-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus and a 12.8-inch curved MMI touch display. Both are angled towards the driver, so the information you need is easy to see without making the dashboard feel cluttered. Audi assistant with AI integration and the e-tron route planner are built in, making everything from finding your next destination to accessing information feel straightforward. 

It's not all about big screens, either. Wireless phone charging with cooling comes as standard, which is the sort of feature you quickly stop noticing – because it just works. Audi connected work also brings Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams and an AI-based work agent into the car, adding a useful extra layer for those who spend plenty of time on the move. 

The lighting helps give the cabin more character, too. Standard white lighting picks out the lines of the interior, while the optional ambient light package plus offers 30 colours and a dynamic light strip across the dashboard. There's also the option of an augmented reality head-up display, putting your speed and navigation instructions directly in your line of sight. 

And if music matters to you, the optional Technology Pack brings a 14-speaker SONOS premium sound system. It's a fitting finishing touch to a cabin that feels every bit as considered and modern as you'd expect from a new Audi. 

Assistance designed for everyday journeys 

The A2 e-tron brings a level of driver assistance technology you might normally expect to find in a larger Audi, and importantly, it doesn't feel like technology for technology's sake. 

Adaptive cruise control is fitted as standard, helping to maintain your chosen speed and a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. It can also respond to changing speed limits and the road ahead, including curves and junctions, making longer journeys feel a little more relaxed. 

Parking is well covered, too. A reversing camera and parking system plus with distance display come as standard, alongside side assist, exit warning and rear cross-traffic assist. They're the sort of features that quietly prove their worth when you're navigating busy car parks or pulling out of a tight space. 

For those wanting more assistance, the optional adaptive cruise assist plus combines adaptive cruise control with active lane guidance. It can also use information from other vehicles and online data to help judge the flow of traffic and maintain your position on the road, even where road markings aren't clearly visible. 

There's more to come, too. Audi plans to introduce automatic lane changes on motorways, activated by using the turn signal, while the system can also assist with stopping at red traffic lights and continue when the lights change, where the conditions allow.
