The New Audi A1

The new eye-catching A1 Sportback has been redesigned from the ground up and will be arriving in our Bath, Bristol and Cardiff Audi showrooms this November.

Exterior

The new A1 is exclusively available as a five door Sportback. The exterior design makes it instantly recognisable as an Audi model and the design hints at the iconic Audi Ur-quattro when viewed from the side. The wide, flat sloping C-pillar seems to push the sporty car forward – even when it’s not moving.

Compared to the first generation the new A1 Sportback is longer and wider:

Length: 4.03 meters (previous model measurements – 3.97 meters).
Width: 1.74 meters
Height: 1.41 meters

The new A1 includes S line equipment and the sporty character is emphasised through numerous exterior features, such as air inlets, additional sill trims, an elongated slit below the hood with two webs and a larger rear wing.

The new Audi A1 includes the new full-LED headlamps which have been included for the first time, while alloy wheels up to 18 inches in diameter are also available as an option.

Interior

The new A1 has driver-focused interior, however, this can be customised. Taut, sporty lines and surfaces characterise the entire interior. Also the button dash and pop-up screen that features in the current A1 have been removed and replaced with a slick MMI touchscreen infotainment system.

The new A1 is much more spacious:

Luggage capacity: 335 litres (65 litres more than its predecessor).
Luggage capacity with rear seats folded down: 1,090 litres
Loading sill height: 67cm
Compartment between the wheel arches: 1m wide.

Choose from two seat designs, with a heated seat option available for both. The sport seat comes as standard.

Fully Connected

The infotainment concept in the new A1 Sportback has filtered down from the model’s larger siblings. The MMI radio plus comes as standard in the UK – it can be operated via the multifunction buttons on the steering wheel, the smartphone-style touch screen display in the fully digital instrument cluster or via the latest generation of voice control. All versions can be equipped with the optional Navigation Pack or Technology pack.

Where Audi connect is fitted, MMI navigation plus offers:

• Hybrid route guidance, which calculates the route in the Cloud.
• Hybrid destination entry
• Google search, Google earth and street view.
• Satellite map view
• 3D city models
• Versatile online services such as travel, parking and traffic info to Twitter and your email inbox.

The Audi smartphone interface which is standard for all versions ensures everyone is always well connected on board the new A1 Sportback. It integrates IOS and Android smartphones using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into an environment in the MMI programmed specifically for them and offers two USB interfaces (1x USB-A, 1x USB-C with increased charging current).

Driver assistance systems

The sporty new A1 Sportback comes filled with driver assistance systems from the segments above. They can keep the new model at the correct distance from the car in front, help the driver stay in the lane, and even park the vehicle.

The lane departure warning system uses a camera at speeds of 40mph and above to detect lane markings. The vehicle can warn the driver through a variety of actions: visual, acoustic, a short jolt of the brakes, and even bringing the car to a standstill in the right circumstances.

Parking is also made easier because an optional reversing camera is available for the first time, in addition to the rear parking system. The new optional park assist system can steer the A1 Sportback into parking spaces while driving at low speeds.

Engines

There is a choice of efficient TFSI engines with outputs ranging from 95 PS to 200 PS. The basic engine is a small one litre, three-cylinder unit, whereas the top engines are four-cylinder 1.5 and 2-litre units. Audi offers a manual transmission or S tronic dual-clutch transmission with seven speeds in combination with all engines.
The model will not be available with diesel engines.

The new Audi A1 Sportback will be available to order from September and will be introduced to the market in November.
