15 Years of Touran

14 May 2018

Just over 15 years ago, Volkswagen launched the first Touran on the market in March 2003. With over three model generations, in the past 15 years the Touran has developed into a best-selling vehicle and a market leader in its segment in Europe. Over this time, around 2.3 million new car buyers have chosen the MPV, which is offered as a five or seven-seater. Today’s Touran can impress with intelligent flexibility, a family-friendly character and innovative features, especially in driver assistance and infotainment.

In November 2006 the MPV was given a comprehensive facelift, which included the first semi-automatic assistance system which we now know as ‘Park Assist’.

In February 2015, after delivering a total of 1.9 million units, Volkswagen developed a completely new generation of the Touran and introduced it in a world premiere. This was the first time that the Touran was based on the new ‘modular transverse matrix’ (MQ3), and it was now 130 mm longer and up to 62 kilograms lighter. An entire armada of progressive assistance systems made their way into the compact Volkswagen MPV, as did a new level of connectivity. These included the optional ‘Car-Net Cam Connect’, which parents could use to keep an eye on their children via a camera which would appear on the infotainment system monitor.

The Volkswagen Touran is available from our Bath & Merthyr Volkswagen dealerships as a 5-seater or 7-seater and provides a mass of space, including a third row of seats which can be easily folded away to increase boot capacity. It includes many features such as panoramic glass sunroof, keyless entry with handsfree boot, 3 zones “pure air climatic”, cargo management system, electronic parking brake and Isofix child seat fittings. Other features include adaptive cruise control, park assist, trailer assist and side scan in conjunction with lane assist and also includes voice amplification across three rows of seats.

The Volkswagen Touran has also been awarded the best MPV by the ‘WhatCar? Awards’. The judges said: “All of our finalists have their plus points, but the Volkswagen Touran remains the most well-rounded MPV on sale. Family buyers may be flocking to SUVs these days, but the Touran shows there’s still life in this class yet."

The Touran is available at our Capitol Volkswagen Merthyr and Bath Volkswagen dealerships.
