The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR

The exciting new Golf GTI TCR

More than just a bage, GTI is an attitude. GTI models are for people who are serious about driving. People who expect precisely poised suspension tuned to perfection. And iconic styling touches that let other road racers know that you rule the road. Love driving? Love GTI.

The orignal. And still the best.

The year was 1976. The Golf GTI Mark 1 put rubber on the road, forever changing the face of accessible performance cars. Finally, there was a car designed and built for those that seek a thrilling drive. For those who crave the pure pleasure of putting your foot down and feeling the car intuitively respond - but who also want a car they can enjoy driving on the road, not just on the race track.

And now...

The Golf GTI TCR, a performance model that tops the range. The car takes inspiration from its racing namesake, twice the winner of international Touring Car Racing series.

The Golf GTI TCR is set to become the fastest front-wheel-drive Golf that Volkswagen has released to date. The TCR produces 290PS channelled through a seven-speed DSG gearbox, achieving a 0-62 time of 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 164mph*. It's not just the speed that has recieved an upgrade. The TCR has high-performance brakes as standard, improved cooling and two additional water radiators.

The Golf GTI TCR stands out from the standard Golf GTI. The car features exclusive looks, with 18-inch 'Quaranta' alloy wheels as standard. Behind the large wheels there is a high-performance braking system with perforated discs that decelerate the production car just as effortlessly as on the TCR racing car. Its front and rear bumpers, matte black exterior mirrors and TCR sticker on the rear are sure to catch the eye on the outside.

The car's sporty look is emphasised by the newly-designed bumper with a sharply contoured front spoiler. There's also a revised panel attachment on the side, which is continues to the rear, joining a diffuser and that exhaust system tailpipes.

Inside the car, the premium sport seats, door inserts and gear stick cover are finished with newly designed microfibre covers. The seat centre sections are in the contrasting Flash red colour, which is the bridge to the red contrasting stitching on the sports steering wheel. When opening the front doors, the TCR logo is also projected on to the asphalt.

The TCR is available in three and five-door models which both feature the same four cylinder 16-valve engine with a petrol particulate filter and a combined consumption of 42.2mpg, while producing CO2 levels of 153/km. The top Golf GTI model features two extra radiators to make sure there's sufficient cooling for the car's high engine performance.

There’s also a £2,000 option pack comprising of 19-inch Reifnitz alloy wheels, lowered suspension fitted with Dynamic Chassis Control and the top speed restriction increased from 155mph to 164mph.

Also available is a Pure Grey paint colour; a first for any GTI, which can be complemented by exclusive optional honeycomb decals on the side of the car, and an optional black roof.

Whichever you decide, you're getting a sporty car that's been precision engineered to give you the same thrill you get from driving a supercar, in a practical package that fits perfectly into your everyday life.
